Sami Abdul Rahman Park
The park is one of the largest park in Iraq. It was designed and built in two stages on an area of 800 donums of land. located west Erbil’s centre, its main gate is opposite the Parliament building. The park houses many tourist facilities like restaurants, playgrounds, streets and lanes, radio instruments and giant movie screens. Thousands of citizens visit for pleasure.
Former, Saddam Hussein infamous detention center is now glittered as a peaceful oasis covers several hectares and contains a lake, rose garden, running track, climbing wall, restaurant, as well as the city’s Martyrs Memorial. It is also home to the Erbil International Fairground, Zaytun Public Library and several children’s playgrounds.
The park is situated on the 60 meter street in the western part of Erbil, opposite the Kurdistan Regional Parliament. Another entrance to the park lies directly in front of the Divan Hotel.
